About Dr Dalia
Dalia Farah is an Egyptian Academic and Scenographer based in Johannesburg. She is a Professor of Expressive Arts at Faculty of Fine Arts, Luxor University, Egypt. Beginning 2024 Dalia holds the position of Senior Lecturer and coordinator of Design program at the Department of Theatre and Performance, Wits School of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Dalia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Expressive Arts, a Master degree of Fine Arts in Expressive Arts, both from Alexandria University, Egypt. She earned her PhD in Theatrical Sciences from Helwan University, Egypt in collaboration with Charles Sturt University, Australia. Her research interests encompass studies related to intermediality, decoloniality, and social reformation. A professional scenographer since 1999, Dalia has collaborated with numerous national and international theatre ensembles.

The performance is a three-act play by Tennessee Williams. It was first presented on Broadway on March 17, 1957. In Orpheus Descending, a young charismatic musician descends on a small, repressive southern town. The performance was produced by the National Troupe in Luxor during the theatre season of 2018-2019, and the researcher participated in designing the sets and costumes. The study examines the fundamental elements that shaped the visual treatment of the performance within a moving theatrical experience that sheds light on aspects of the life of rural women in Upper Egypt.
